Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Twenty – Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

As we reflect on the readings today we are reminded why we gather each weekend for Mass.  Our celebration is not an end in itself, but must lead us to lives that respond to God’s call.  As Saint James said in the second reading today, “We are to be doers of the word and not hearers only.”  Interesting that the Pharisees and scribes during the time of Jesus were looking to follow the letter of the Law from Moses and yet did not grasp the spirit of what it was all about, so their observation of the law was empty.  As we listen to the Words of God in scripture today, ask yourself, what is He telling us about how we are to follow God’s commands?                - Deacon Jim

August 23 - 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel we focus once again on the Eucharist.  Jesus challenges His followers to believe and follow Him.  The consequences of their choice are far reaching.   Every time we choose to eat the Body and drink the Blood of the risen Christ, we witness to our choice to stay with Jesus and to believe in Him.  We can make this choice because, in the Eucharist, Jesus has chosen to stay with us, believe in us and give Himself to us.                                  – Deacon Jim

“Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.”/ 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 9, 2015
19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.” (Psalm)  Do you recognize the presence of Christ in the Eucharist?  Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.”  Our Eucharistic feeding at the hand of Jesus, will nourish our souls while transforming us into a people who, like bread broken and shared, become images of Christ in our world.  We are to become the image of Jesus’ own self-sacrificing love.  “Almighty ever-living God, bring through your gift of the Eucharist, the spirit of adoption as your sons and daughters, destine to merit to enter into the inheritance you have promised.”     - Deacon Jim
