Who are those that we can help? 27th Sunday in OT.

Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

October 2, 2016

 Celebrate Life!

We tend to think of faith as a quantity that can be increased.  Today’s Gospel makes it clear that Jesus is telling us not to measure faith.  Faith is rather a relationship with God.  It is a way of life, an active aligning of ourselves with God and His will.  Faith cannot be earned, it is a gift from God to all of us.  It is up to each of us to do as Paul tells us, “Stir into flame the gift of faith in God that you have…”    /s/Deacon Jim

Woe to the complacent who ignore the needs of the poor.

Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 25, 2016

The message this week is centered on recognizing the needs of others and attending to them. In the first reading from Amos, we hear of the consequences of the wealthy Israelites for neglecting those needs and letting them know that they will be the first to be exiled.  Our Gospel tell us of the terrible things that will happen to those of power and riches who ignore the plight of the ones who suffer around them. Our prayers this week need to be asking for the grace to open our eyes and our hearts to those who are in need around us.

"No Seervant can serve two masters..." 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time / September 18, 2016

 September 18, 2016

Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus said, “No servant can serve two masters.  You will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other.” (Luke 16:13) The question presented to us this week is, whom do we serve?  We must choose to serve God and God alone.  Ponder what is most important in your life.  Who or what is number one?  Who or what do you serve as your God?

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The love and compassion for the lost coming home.

September 11, 2016
Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

As we read and reflect on the Gospel today, we may be focusing on the celebration for the one that was saved.  While this is all well and good, have you ever thought about how hard is for that one to come back to the fold?  Imagine being away from your faith for many years.  Now imagine how hard it would be to come back.  (What will people say?  What will others think of me?  How can I stand before the faithful and ever feel that I am part of them again?)  It took years for St. Augustine to come to his senses and turn to God, and yet his mother, St. Monica, never gave up in her prayers for him.  St. Augustine is a great model for us of what it means to be saved, to be lost and then found.  Pray that we are welcoming to all of the lost when they try to come home!
