Third Sunday of Easter - April 19, 2015

Third Sunday of Easter
April 19, 2015

Like the Emmaus story that precedes it, today’s Gospel reminds us of the apostle’s experience with the risen Jesus in the community’s Eucharistic celebration.  First Jesus gathers the followers as he appears in their midst, then he opens their minds to the understanding of the scriptures.  Jesus then shows the disciples his wounds and eats the food they offer.  We can see how he demonstrates for them and us our own Liturgy of the Eucharist.
As Jesus opened the minds and hearts of the disciples he wanted them and us to grasp two things:  The written Word of God in the scriptures and our own repentance and conversion of life that will enable us to forgive and welcome others as Christ forgives.
“The author of life was put to death but raised from the dead for the salvation of all mankind,”                           -Deacon Jim

This is the story of our Mass:  We gather as a faith family, we hear the Word of God proclaimed in the Liturgy of the Word, and then we share in the breaking of the bread as we experience the Eucharist.

Second Sunday of Easter / April 12, 2015

Second Sunday of Easter
Divine Mercy Sunday

Jesus presents us with yet another Beatitude today:  “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”  How strong is our belief?  Do our actions speak for us or not?  Today we are challenged by the example of the early Christian community in the passage from the Acts of the Apostles.  “There was no needy person among them.”  We are all called as Christians to live so that what was true of the early Christians will be said of us.  Let us pray today for the grace to respond to this calling from God.

Easter

As we come together to celebrate this greatest of holy days, Easter, we thank God for a special group of people: those who enter the Church at the Easter Vigil!  Welcome and Congratulations! The Church loves you and embraces you! Up until Saturday night, we have called you catechumens, those who have not been baptized, or we called you candidates, those who are already baptized Christians, and who will enter into full union with the Church through their profession of faith,

These new Catholics are an Easter gift of Jesus to His Church! We thank our risen Lord for them and pray that the Holy Spirit will enrich their lives and guide them on their continued journey as members of His Church.

Congratulations to:  Faith Bartels, Sevara Smith, Brittany Youngblut, Jamie Fenton, Alicial Grover, and Sharon Link.
