Twenty-eighth Sunday
in Ordinary Time
Today we gather as
citizens of one of the wealthiest nations in the world. Many of us have far more than most people in
history. At the same time, we listen to
the words of today’s Gospel. The
conversation that Jesus has with the young man who goes way sad at the prospect
of giving up his many possessions leads us to reflect on just how difficult it
is to enter God’s kingdom when our heart may be taken up with other kinds of
possessions. As we reflect today on God’s
words, we ask ourselves, what in our lives keeps us from entering God’s
kingdom? What are we going to do about
it?
