Fifth Sunday of
Easter
May 14, 2017
In today’s Gospel Jesus says, “Do not let your hearts be
troubled. You have faith in God; have
faith also in me. In my Father’s house
there are many dwelling places…” (Jn.
14: 1,2) This reading from John is one that we often use at a funeral, when the
family is reflecting on the love and mercy of God, as they are saying goodbye
to their loved one who has just passed.
Those reflections are formed by our faith in God as our Loving
Father.
We do not know any way to salvation other than through the Lord. That way is not easy but it is clear that is
the only way to our eternal rewards. We
are reminded that we are already in our Father’s house as we attend this gift
of the Eucharist at Mass. It is in this
house and in this great Sacrament that he reveals himself in the Word, the Eucharist
and in one another as the Body of Christ united together. We follow Christ for he is, “the way and the
truth and the life.” (Jn. 14:6)
