Good Shepherd Sunday - The Fourth Sunday of Easter - April 26

Fourth Sunday of Easter
April 25 & 26
The Good Shepherd

Each year on the Fourth Sunday of Easter we hear a Gospel story in which Jesus proclaims that he is the Good Shepherd.  As a result this Sunday is called, “Good Shepherd Sunday.”  Our knowing the Good Shepherd takes a lifetime of devotion to and living the Gospel.  When Jesus said, “I know mine and mine know me,” He was reminding us of or deep relationship with Him in the Eucharist.  Our relationship with Jesus is never finished. It needs to grow each day.  It is only in accomplishing that, that we can answer our call to be good shepherds too.

This Sunday is also the World Day of Prayer for Vocations.  "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2).  “St. Raphael the Archangel, pray with us that we will all hear, answer, and live our vocations, for the glory of God and the benefit of other.  Pray also that we will always have priests to heal and help us in the future.”

Third Sunday of Easter - April 19, 2015

Third Sunday of Easter
April 19, 2015

Like the Emmaus story that precedes it, today’s Gospel reminds us of the apostle’s experience with the risen Jesus in the community’s Eucharistic celebration.  First Jesus gathers the followers as he appears in their midst, then he opens their minds to the understanding of the scriptures.  Jesus then shows the disciples his wounds and eats the food they offer.  We can see how he demonstrates for them and us our own Liturgy of the Eucharist.
As Jesus opened the minds and hearts of the disciples he wanted them and us to grasp two things:  The written Word of God in the scriptures and our own repentance and conversion of life that will enable us to forgive and welcome others as Christ forgives.
“The author of life was put to death but raised from the dead for the salvation of all mankind,”                           -Deacon Jim

This is the story of our Mass:  We gather as a faith family, we hear the Word of God proclaimed in the Liturgy of the Word, and then we share in the breaking of the bread as we experience the Eucharist.

Second Sunday of Easter / April 12, 2015

April 12, 2015
Second Sunday of Easter
Divine Mercy Sunday

Jesus presents us with yet another Beatitude today:  “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”  How strong is our belief?  Do our actions speak for us or not?  Today we are challenged by the example of the early Christian community in the passage from the Acts of the Apostles.  “There was no needy person among them.”  We are all called as Christians to live so that what was true of the early Christians will be said of us.  Let us pray today for the grace to respond to this calling from God.
